Dear Mr Munro,

Thank you for your letters informing me of the problems with the Government’s Regulation changing arrangements for the registration of aircraft.

Your input and the individual experiences of individual aircraft owners and pilots have helped me understand the practical ramifications of the Regulation for the industry.

I am very pleased to formally advise you that the Labor Party listened to your concerns and took swift action to ensure that the offending part of the Regulation was disallowed.

It was important to me that only the contentious parts of the Regulation were blocked – that is, the Part 47 relating to aircraft registration.  The Labor Party had no desire to block other measures, such as those to help stop the trade in bogus aircraft parts.

My negotiations with the Minister’s office ensured this occurred.  However, if the Government did not agree to facilitate the part-disallowance, we would have supported the disallowance of the whole Regulation to ensure that Part 47 did not proceed.

It is now our sincere hope that the Government instructs the Civil Aviation Safety Authority to go back to the industry and consult properly – not only in appearance, but in fact - with all affected parties.

I will work to ensure that happens.

Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention.  It is important that the industry continues to advise me of any matters that cause you concern.

It would be appreciated if you could also advise those who have emailed via your email account of the contents of this letter.

Yours sincerely,

MARTIN FERGUSON

Shadow Minister for Regional Development, Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Services and Population
