Boyd Munro with his tiny Motorola StarTac analogue (which is working) and his Optus Nokia 8110 (which is out of range) in the Coles Supermarket in Goulburn NSW on Sunday 29th March 1998.
If you are waiting for an important call, you can still go shopping in Coles with your analogue. But not with your Optus digital. This ecxperience is repeated all over Australia because of the very short range of digital base stations and the poor sensitivity of even the very best digital phones (such as the Nokia 8110).
Goulburn is a major city in Southern New South Wales, and the Coles Supermarket in the middle of town is Goulburn's the biggest shop. It lies on the Hume Highway about 2 hours south of Sydney. If you are driving past, APUMP recommends that you pop in and visit this delightful city.
